Ranger: That is a very good question, and I don't have as much a clue either. Well, the Queen/King can pull rank on parliment for any reason, but that isn't often (if at all) done. You can still be given the death penalty for treason, so they've got that layer of protection. They are also the representatives of the country in ways that the PM isn't (after all, they're usually only in for 4 years a go), so all in all I'm not sure. They're there for patriotism, I guess?

Me: Thanks to the checks-and-balances system, he/she is commander in chief of our military, and can deploy troops in militaristic manners for so many days sans congressional approval before so many congress peeps have to decide whether said militaristic action is okay, and if that said so many of congressmen say that it is, in fact, not okay, the military peeps stop being deployed to the place. He/she's there to be the face of America to outsiders?
