Song of the Day Thing #16

Imagine Dragons actually has a fairly large discography for having only put out two albums. A lot of people who were fans of the first Imagine Dragons album weren't huge fans of the second, feeling its heavier focus towards rock songs was a bad decision. I, however, firmly believe that most of Imagine Dragons' best songs come from before they recorded any albums at all, and were putting out EPs instead. I think their first album was a little too pop-oriented and their second too rock-based, but their pre-album stuff really strikes a nice balance for me, especially on songs like this one.

I've only listened to Imagine Dragon's first album before (and a one or two singles from the second), but yeah, this song ain't half bad. Either way, from what I've heard of them Imagine Dragons are the absolute epitome of an average band in my eyes. Though their second album being "too rock-oriented" doesn't sound like a bad thing to me, considering how the first was a bit too poppy for my tastes.

The second album definitely appeals to a certain crowd. I personally don't think Imagine Dragons wears the title of a rock band well though. The second album had a couple good songs (I'm So Sorry, Hopeless Opus) but overall I think both it and their first album suffered from a lack of direction.

But I mean, I've heard people call their second album one of their favorite rock albums of last year, so I guess it does appeal to some people.
