Song of the Day Thing #35

Rate this Entry

One of the most under-appreciated Radiohead songs, IMHO. I far prefer this song to I Will, the song this one is apparently a backwards version of, and I can't really tell you why other than just enjoying the creepy atmosphere. The lyrics are pretty haunting, and I think this is a perfect penultimate track to Amnesiac. It serves as easily one of my top 3 songs from the album too.

Also I guess here's the track ranking.

Spoiler:
1. I Might Be Wrong (in my Holy Trinity of Radiohead songs, actually)
2. Life in a Glasshouse
3. Like Spinning Plates
4. You and Whose Army?
5. Dollars and Cents
6. The Pyramid Song
7. Morning Bell/Amnesiac (the Kid A version is totally better though)
8. Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box
9. Pulk
10. Hunting Bears
11. Knives Out

As an album I'd rank Amnesiac as probably their fifth best album, maybe sixth. Used to be my second favorite right after Kid A but it's taken a bit of a fall from grace since. Still really like it though.

    I love this song
Live version is more easy to listen to tho

Oh hey, another song that took me a while to get into :3 ah well, might as well give my obligatory song ranking too for that album. Also I'd place Amnesiac in around the same spot as you would overall

    Spoiler:
    1. Dollars and Cents
    2. Pyramid Song
    3. I Might Be Wrong
    4. You and Whose Army?
    5. Life in a Glasshouse
    6. Knives Out
    7. Like Spinning Plates
    8. Packt Like Sardines In a Crushed Tin Box
    9. Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors
    10. Morning Bell/Amnesiac (Kid A version kicks this one's ass imo)
    11. Hunting Bears
  3. Poles's Avatar
Wait why's Knives Out at the bottom of your list Sanic

I agree, the live version is really different from the studio version, almost an entirely different song.

Knives Out just... I dunno. I never really liked it. It's never really intrigued me at all, it kinda drudges on for me. I mean it was released as a single so obviously a lot of people like it, I just don't...

Looking at Log's list and a couple of other lists, Pulk really seems to be one of the songs from this album not many people like. I like what it tries to do but I think it needed something a little... more. I dunno. It feels lacking.

I made a different track listing for Amnesiac once that I thought made the album a little better, to me anyway. It went like:

    Spoiler:
    Packt Like Sardines
    The Pyramid Song
The Amazing Sounds of Orgy (it's really weird to try to recommend this song to people)
    You and Whose Army?
    I Might Be Wrong
    Hunting Bears
    Morning Bell/Amnesiac
    Dollars and Cents
    Cuttooth
    Like Spinning Plates
    Life in a Glasshouse

Never really decided which order Cuttooth and Like Spinning Plates should be in but aside form that this always sounded interesting to me. You could probably add Knives Out in between Hunting Bears and MB/A as well.

I don't care much for Knives Out either (not very relatable xP) but I think it'd at least be better than Hunting Bears.

This makes me want to do a list of my own too
    Spoiler:

    1. Life in a Glasshouse (This is one of my all time favorites :3)
    2. Pyramid Song
    3. I Might Be Wrong
    4. You and Whose Army?
    5. Like Spinning Plates
    6. Dollars and Cents
    7. Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box
    8. Morning Bell/Amnesiac
    9. Knives Out
    10. Pulk
    11. Hunting Bears

Pulk is kind of in a similar boat as Fitter, Happier for me. Its really more of a statement than a song. Nothing wrong with that, but kind of makes it hard to compare to like, actual songs. As for Knives Out... well, that song IS what Radiohead considered "too straightforward." I can see where you're coming from on it but I like it personally. I feel like its kind of similar to Dollars and Cents as far as the general theme is concerned, just conveying it in a rather different way... So that's probably part of why I like it.
