Song of the Day Thing #63

oh look a contender for my favorite song of all time

Seriously, this is the second song I heard by Radiohead (Creep was of course the first) and I remember it changed the way I viewed music. I cannot thank Pandora enough for randomly tossing this on some unrelated station after I kept skipping a bunch of songs I didn't like. This song makes everything okay. My favorite part is right before Thom starts singing "Because we separate," when you can hear this little guitar sound in the background. It's almost like it was an accident; it's so faint I didn't even hear it the first hundred or so times I heard this song. But once I did it was revolutionary.

Figured I should go back and rank In Rainbows and Pablo Honey since I wasn't doing that when I showcased those two albums.

Spoiler:
1. Reckoner
2. Weird Fishes
3. Jigsaw Falling Into Place
4. Bodysnatchers
5. Faust Arp
6. 15 Step
7. Nude
8. All I Need
9. House of Cards
10. Videotape

Honestly I think I underrate this album sometimes. I'd probably be higher in my rankings, like number 2 maybe, if I didn't just think Videotape was kind of anticlimactic. (also I'm not huge on House of Cards)

I might not post Pablo Honey's rankings next week just because I've forgotten what half the album sounds like. I distinctly know where You, Creep, How Do You, Anyone Can Play Guitar, Lurgee, and Blow Out will end up on the list, but everything else is a bit of a blur.

I think Videotape is the perfect way to end this album but I guess that's just me

    Spoiler:

    1. Jigsaw Falling Into Place
    2. Weird Fishes
    3. Nude
    4. 15 Step
    5. Reckoner
    6. Videotape
    7. Bodysnatchers
    8. All I Need
    9. House of Cards
    10. Faust Arp

I like all of them. Faust Arp is just too weird for me to enjoy listening to it as much as the rest of the album.

I think Videotape's a damn good closer as well. Not the best Radiohead closer, but there's some tight competition there (I'd consider Street Spirit the best closer)

Faust Arp is well, Faust Arp. I like it but I can't help feeling like it's the Fitter, Happier or Kid A of the album. I like it more than both of those but the rest of the songs on the albums just mean more to me.

I'm not sure what it is about Faust Arp that makes me like it as much as I do. I definitely understand why it's usually considered the worst song from the album, but to me, it's kind of like a transition from the first half of the album to the second, like how Treefingers or Fitter Happier operates.

Which, considering those two are also often considered the worst from their respective album, is interesting.

Also: either Street Spirit or Life in a Glasshouse is best ending song. Probably something like SS = Glasshouse > A Wolf at the Door > Blowout > Motion Picture Soundtrack > Separator > The Tourist > Videotape. I don't dislike Videotape but it doesn't have the draw for me most other Radiohead songs do.

Then again I used to say that about Let Down and it's steadily becoming one of my favorites from OKC. Sooo.

    I'd rate closers like Street Spirit>Blow Out>Wolf At The Door>Videotape>The Tourist>Glasshouse>Separator>Motion Picture

    All damn good closers imo.

    Motion Picture>Glasshouse>Separator>Street Spirit>Videotape>Wolf At The Door>The Tourist>Blow Out

Never realized how good all of them were

I feel like the opening and closing songs are all good. Never really realized it until I realized You and Blowout were my favorites of Pablo Honey.
