Song a Day or whatever #4

Well, this was one of the songs I was considering running after my first choice, so fuck it I'll run it now.

I know, if there was ever an incredibly obvious folk act to pick a song for Mumford and Sons would be the choice. I will say that they are by no means my favorite folk act, hell I could safely say I enjoy Sufjan Stevens from my last Song a Day more than these guys. Actually, pretty much every folk act I have at least one album of on my iPod is a folk act I like more than Mumford and Sons. But... hey, they're still good. I'm not sure I'd call them "great" but they're certainly good. I'd give the album this song comes off of is like an 8/10. And hey, at least I didn't pick Little Lion Man or I Will Wait so give me some credit xP

Now for the actual song. Of course, like almost every other Mumford and Sons song in existence it has the word "heart" in it but... the lyrics here are pretty good. Not sure I'd be able to say precisely what the song is about but who cares. But hey, maybe we could shoehorn this song into Pink Floyd's The Wall. Perhaps right after The Trial. "TEAR DOWN THE WALL! TEAR DOWN THE WALL!" "WELL I'M GONNA TEAR, TEAR THEM DOWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN" guess which one is actually from this song?

What's more striking to me is how much of a punch this song has. I mean, you normally don't expect folk songs to have a "punch" per se. I mean, metal songs? Sure. Rock songs sure? Pop songs? Even those occasionally. But no, they pulled it off with folk. I don't normally listen to folk songs to pump myself up, but this one might be an exception to that. OK, it's not technically 100% folk because I'm pretty sure they have an electric bass in there, but I don't think it would completely lose its punch if it was omitted. The music and the singing really just brings the passion of this song to another level. It's a damn good way to start off an album.

I never really listen to Mumford & Sons of my own accord, but I know someone who likes them a lot so I've heard a fair number of their songs. Hadn't heard this one though. It's pretty interesting but like you said Mumford & Sons just isn't my favorite folk act.

Although Little Lion Man is pretty fantastic.
