Song a Day or whatever #13

I have a friend that happens to be a girl, and on two separate occasions she basically infodumped a bunch of songs for me to listen to because I was looking for new music or whatever. Her tastes are a bit more poppy though, so most of the stuff she recommended was pretty much the kind that could potentially breach the pop charts and nothing else. I don't mind that kind, but it's a kind that tends to wear out easily. But hey, I like this one. Coincidentally, it's also one of the least likely ones to get radio play xP

Amber Run seems like an average at best band from what little I've listened to them beyond this, but hey, this song's nice. It has a nice atmosphere to it, and I don't think I've heard a song with quite the same atmosphere as this before. It's not exactly gloomy, but it's somewhere not too far off from it. Perhaps a more optimistic gloom, if that makes any sense whatsoever and I know it doesn't. I feel like this might be the slowest song I've picked so far, but it has this strange quality that just sucks you in regardless. Them vocal harmonies certainly help.

As far as the lyrics go, they're nothing too special but I kind of like them regardless. Actually, it's a bit hard to pin point exactly what the story is here. It seems to be about how the singer broke up with this chick but finds that he still likes her regardless. I guess that seems like the most reasonable explanation, their approach to that subject is somewhat interesting. Somewhat.

"If you talk enough sense then you'll lose your mind." That's a cool sentiment right there. This song is pretty nice. I like the clap-thump thing in the chorus, although that's a bit of a cliche at this point I guess. The build up ending to this song is pretty nice as well. I wish there had been a little bit more of that.

I wish stuff like this was a little more prevalent on radio play. I'm not a huge fan or anything but it's definitely something I feel like a lot of people would like to listen to and it would break away from the monotony of the charts sometimes. That's why I like the disturbances we always get, like 7 Years by Lukas Graham which is I think the number three song this week. Even though they don't do much for me, they really bring a lot of variety to the charts.
