Song a Day or whatever #17

Meh fuck playing songs that incorporate classical instrumentation, let's just have a fucking metal song played on the motherfucking cello

You know, I have this weird interest in listening to covers of songs with completelyyyyyyy different instruments. Of those covers I've seen so far, this is easily my favorite. I'm sure a cello would not be the first thing that comes to mind when someone thinks of covering a metal song, but it works surprisingly well. I'm kind of blown away by how well it captures the intensity of the song while also highlighting how complex the song's structure actually is at parts. It's just a very enjoyable instrumental track overall. To be honest, it makes me wish my genre of choice utilized the cello more often, because most of the time I hear the cello in the alt. rock/indie rock/whatever genre(s) it's mostly just minimalist stuff like Viva La Vida. This song proves that they can sound bad ass mang

Also, since it's a cover I might as well compare it to the original, which I also thoroughly enjoy. Tool's version of Lateralus is as expected more metal-y which is an obvious difference. I think I MIGHT enjoy the cello instrumental more but they're pretty close in that regard, the main thing that puts the tool version over the edge is that it actually has lyrics. The lyrics are a significant factor because the lyrics to that song are actually pretty fucking good.

I like oddly different sounding covers as well, to be quite honest. Actually though, a cello does sound like it makes sense for a metal song to me. It's not the first thing I'd think of but I can understand the logic behind that.

I should listen to Tool one day I guess. A lot of people have been telling me to but I never got around to it because I never thought I'd like metal. But since I clearly do... :P

Also for a second there I thought this song was gonna be all cello, the drums kicking in caught me off guard.

Quite interesting. The ending is my favorite part I think.
