Wowzers number 30, that's like, 3 10s. Also it's On a Friday so...
You know, it's kind of fun to imagine the main beat as being bombs dropped one after another. I actually quite like the music here not just because it's easy to get into but because it actually provides a nice image of the setting. Whenever I hear it I can just imagine this war-torn barren wasteland, perhaps not the most beautiful sight but certainly an effective one. Really, it is probably the song that complements Kid A's album cover the most.
I also quite like the lyrics here, particularly the "Ice age coming, ice age coming, let me hear both sides let me hear both sides let me hear both" part. It just has some nice irony about how impending doom is coming our way but we still feel the need to argue instead of actually addressing it. Also Tahm Yark's voice is enjoyable as always.
Really, I used to be really biased against electronic music. I just viewed it as "fake music" and opposed listening to it on principal. To be honest, I still like "real instruments" more generally but I've definitely become more open to electronic as a genre. I can safely say this song was a bit of a gateway drug for me.
