Long time no see, ay guys and gals? Welcome to Crash Course erboh.com History where we look at the history of the very website that you're visiting right now. Today we'll discuss groups, even after their death, and we'll see on how they just might influence our future. After all, something that influential doesn't just go away.
"Oh! Oh! Mr. LAWLzoR! Mr. LAWLzoR! If groups go... can I still get a color?"
Oh, Me-From-The-Past, it was only about a year ago or two ago that you made groups. The color of your name won't matter, but your actions will. Just because you created groups, and in the future this series, and even become one of the most well known forumers that won't change the fact that you have flaws and limits. Your actions will be remembered but you also can't just do whatever you want. Mistakes are fine, everyone makes them, but when you do bad things on purpose, it then turns into a problem. It also works vice versa, just because you do one good act as compared to the many bad acts you did before, your forgiveness will take time. And you're not indestructible Me-From-The-Past. You may have a bit of an inflated ego and some nice deeds for the site but neither you nor I could've gotten to the top without friends and other support.
That was some deep stuff right there, much like our history, so let's get rollin' my homies!
So today, which I'm sure you deducted from the title, we'll be learning about the time from the beginning of groups to its end, which was actually this week.
So the beginning of groups was a very slow time. One to three groups popped up and it started as a fun little thing to do. Originally created by myself with the help of, of course, Dion and Rob. I started it as a way for a group of people could just band together and have each other's back. Many groups were made and some even rejected or ditched over the course of the history of groups, but let's start with the history of groups before we get to groups that didn't hold out so well.
After a couple of months, a lot of groups were being made a one time. Some with only 4 people in it, and some with 16 or so. This was becoming a problem, especially considering that the groups with very few people was a waste of bandwidth. So after those months of lots of groups, a rule was made so that at least 10-15 people must sign up with you in order to make your group a reality.
During the middle age of the Groups Era, more groups that failed were created, and a bit of groups that made it through were created. To name a few groups that didn't make it:
Supah Starz (a group that was made early but combined with Underdog Inc)
Flight
STARZ
Russia (made after the ERB Season 2 Finale)
Prestige Worldwide
Black Ops
And some groups that were made around this time that you just might remember:
Phantomz
Noitu Lover
Yami Kage
So as you can see, the middle age of the Groups Era was really the meat of the era, as it gave groups that were already made time to grow, and allowed groups that were made during this moment time to grow as well. This time allowed groups to develop into what they were seen until recently. A group at this time was meant mainly for people to get together and just hang out. Along with that, private sections were also being added, giving groups that sense of exclusiveness that also became part of groups.
Now time to discuss the later part of the era... after an open letter. An open letter to groups.
Dear Groups,
you were a HUGE part of this forum's history. People created you because you were just so awesome, people were part of you because you were so awesome, and the idea of you is so awesome! People love being together because we're a social creature and we're also creatures that like things that make us "better" than others, but I digress. You brought many people together and will always have some place in our hearts.
Best wishes, LAWLzoR
Alright, so now for the later part of the Groups Era.
During this moment in time, nothing new really happened. No new groups arose to compete against the new groups, and literally nothing happened within the groups themselves. Lack of activity within the groups ultimately led to its downfall, but let me explain why it's not fully gone. When news of the groups being gone made it to the public, people were outraged. Groups have become dear to our heart and we didn't want to see it gone, and even today they aren't gone. You still notice the colors that we have? Those were left over from the groups, and even after they're gone a color system will be added. I also think that forumers will figure out their own replacement for groups, but it definitely will not die out.
Next time we'll discuss the change that vBulletin gave us. Thanks for reading guys, and as always, don't forget to be awesome!
