A Link Between Many Worlds

Today, I'd like to teach you all why and how the USA has connections with so many countries. From Europe, to Mexico, to Asia, South America, Australia, Japan, and so many more countries. So let's start from the earliest connections.

The USA of course had connections with Great Britain, because the USA was only a colony of GB at the time. We also had some connections with the French because the French used to control most of mid-USA. That's the land we got from Napoleon when he had to cut his losses, and sold the "Louisiana" Territory for famously 2 cents an acre. Not to mention that the French also fought against us in the French-Indian War, and fought with us in the Revolutionary War.

We also have connections with Spain for the same reason: we had them as an ally during the Revolutionary War. Spain and France supported our war because they saw it as one of their rivals losing power, which it was, so France and Spain gladly joined. Subsequently, we became allies with Great Britain, France, Spain, and most of Europe as we were most like them than we were any other great body of countries (Africa and Asia kept their hands out of the Americas).

We also increased contact with Latin America as we got lands off of the colony of Mexico, and had the Mexican Wars to get Texas under our belt. With the Monroe Doctrine (The doctrine stated that the Eastern Hemisphere (which is Europe, Africa, and Asia) should keep their hands out of the Americas, and any movement otherwise would be seen as a threat to America) t solidified that we were going to be striking deals with Latin and South America. These contacts grow better through the US involvement when the liberation of Cuba from Spain, and Cuba basically becoming an island under US control.

Just before WWI starts, the USA plays its hand in Japan, almost forcing it into modernization and forced it to open up its markets to the Western world. Because of this, the USA also had increased contact with China. Not only is Japan close to China, but China had its markets opened by force after the Opium Wars that I talked about a few lessons back.

WWI starts, and the USA first doesn't join the war because of its isolationist policies, but in 1917 (around a year before the war ended) the USA joined the war. Increasing its contacts with Russia, Germany, and basically all of Europe and Turkey. This is because while the USA was definitely aware of the rest of the world, but didn't necessarily come in contact that much.

Fast forward to WWII, and the USA's contacts with the Soviet Union because of their ideological differences. USA also increases its contacts with Japan, China, and Europe as the USA expands its markets and tries to rebuild Japan and Europe, and tries to support the nationalist party in China during and a little after WWII.

By this point, the USA has contacts with almost every country that was around at the time. Even Australia, South America, and Africa.

I hope you guys learned something, thanks for reading
