The idea of groups in general. They'll be more like "clubs". There's no unity, no common color, no group avatar, it's disorganized and rather pointless.

A.) Common color. There will be a way to get colored usernames, like credits perhaps, so I'm sure if you wanted groups to be that unified they could get the same color.
B.) Unity. Ummmm what? There will still be group sections, I fail to see why these other things would de-unify a group.
C.) Group avatar. Put it in your sig. Not a big deal.

I don't see managing to get every group member to amalgamate enough credits each to get the same color, and Dion said only Admins, GM's, Mods, and people who donate to the site can get colors.

No he didn't. He said he was thinking about only mods having colors, then I told him someone could purchase any color other than what the mods have. Honestly, everyone in chat keeps saying this change has more bad things about it than good. I'd LOVE for someone to tell me all the "bad" things and see if they outweigh the good.

No, he told me in the chat that people would donate to get colors.

Spartica, I don't think you understand what we like about groups. To me, it's not just a group avatar or a couple words under my sig or a colored name. It's the section. It's the fun me and the rest of Epic Alienz has together as a group. We're a community of forumers that share fun times with each other. I'm sure Rob will find a way to make vbulletin and phb interchangeable so that groups can stay. You're honestly the only person on the forum who doesn't like groups. If you don't like them, why are you in one? Explain THAT to me. We are united as a group not just by a few words under our username, but by the color and group avatar so that we're distinguishable. So that people know, "Hey, WWEFan101 is in Underdog Inc, I like him so I'll join their group". Just face the facts that groups are one of the things that make our forum unique.

The sections will still be here.. so I have no clue where you're getting this from, Dion even said they would. And I'm the only person who doesn't like groups? I could name some more who've said to take out groups. I'm in one because if it's there I'll use it, doesn't mean I like the concept. I don't like the concept of dividing a forum amongst themselves. Burn me.

Here we go again. Once again this forum is proving how insecure it has begun, let the "don't fight guys" begin, even though I was perfectly calm when I responded to Z.

Yep, that totally doesn't open up a doorway into the batshit insane, yet common arguments here.

Re: Big forum update 5/27 - 5/28
Alright now. Let the Almighty zombielicker settle this.
Everybody just needs to be stable, and not start anything in the middle of this. Sure, it would have been nice to know, or have an opinion earlier, and I'm sure all the other forumers agree. But at the same time, this might bring some good. We don't know of all what vbulletin is capable of, well, because we're not using it yet. Let us see what it has to offer. Not that I completely agree with this switch, I'd rather not leave and be with my forum friends, so I'll go with it. Rob is a smart guy, I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

Yes but you are saying you predicted a fight and it's happening. Which it is not.
Could we get :backtotopic: now?

No me gusta, and I'm pissed we were kept in the dark about it.

Re: Big forum update 5/27 - 5/28
haha okay guys shuddup :lawl:
The vbulletin software is actually very expensive. It'll solve a lot of 'behind the scenes' issues and bugs that a lot of you might not know about. It'll also solve some of the issues that a lot of you care about; like search never working.
Just like with PhpBB (the software we use now), there are tons of 'add on' modifications that can add additional features to the forum. vbulletin has group features built into it, we will have to discover how things work and what we can do once we get it. Then we can start working on adding new things and filling gaps, so that it doesn't seem like a "downgrade".
A lot of you seem to think that this is a downgrade in a lot of ways, and thats actually not the case. Apart from the behind the scenes things like server resources and bugs, there are a lot of new, built in features.
One big thing is a blog/article management system. A lot of the things that are 'add-ons' for PhpBB are already built into vbulletin. This is a big deal, because the 'add-ons' for PhpBB are made by normal people in their spare time. So as time goes on, they end up being outdated and stop working. Things that are built into vbulletin are kept up-to-date by the company.
Everyone likes different things about the ERB community. Whether its the commendatory of groups, the discussions and debates, or just the ERB leaks, we want everyone to be able to enjoy the site in their own way. So we will be trying to keep as many features as possible. Don't panic if things disappear and aren't back right away, it'll take time to figure out the new software and get things setup. Also, there will be more style options, and they will be a lot easier to make with vB.

Re: Big forum update 5/27 - 5/28
Once everything is in place, then you(meaning the forum) can start saying what you don't like about it. Don't bash something when it hasn't even happened yet.

Re: Big forum update 5/27 - 5/28
I've always wanted a blog :p
But the main thing is, I've seen how vBulletin has been run by others, and it's not good.

Let's not make assumptions, okay? Rob knows what he's doing and he's got Dion to back him up. We'll be fine.

Basically what Rob has said.
There are still quite a few things I have not mentioned about vBulletin that makes it a lot more useful than phpBB. We can have "Awards" that will appear under the username, we will have "Infractions" instead of "Warnings" and they will be a lot more intimidating considering that you will automatically get banned/become an offender (which limits the amount you can post) if you gain enough. There are a lot of little stuff that we can do with vBulletin that are provided with the actual company. Unlike with phpBB, where all the add-ons are only provided by coders and just regular people that do it in their spare time.
You won't know that you don't like it until you actually use it.

Or it might be just very late at night. Last time Rob tried to do the update, it was like 2 am EST.
I imagine so.

I've found that vBulletin is very hard to navigate, and has a way of filling up your email whenever somebody replys to any topic you posted in.

You do realize that you can turn off that option?
