So, I'm at a point where I just want to decide on a bunch of matchups for my series. I wanna add battles to the list. I want a game plan.
There are three parts to this: 1) I have some possible matchups, matchups that I'm considering but I'm not sure if I want to do them. I'd like to know you guys' opinion on them. 2) I have some people I'd like to use but I do not have opponents for them yet. I'd like some matchup suggestions including them. 3) Give your own suggestions! Suggest people and/or matchups that I haven't used and that I don't have planned.
Criteria for suggesting characters:
- They need to be real. If they're not completely confirmed to have existed, there should at least be fairly substantial evidence that they did (e.g. Jesus). Fictional characters are allowed if spawned by their creators (e.g. Bilbo Baggins from J.R.R. Tolkien). I will very rarely make an exception to this.
- They need to be historical. There is not a set time frame that I define as historical, but they should be either be fairly past their prime or it's pretty likely that they will leave a lasting legacy (I wouldn't consider Macklemore historical, but I'd consider Eminem somewhat historical).
PART ONE - Possible Matchups
For each matchup listed, please give your opinion on it. Do you like it? Do you not like it? Should one character be swapped out with someone else? Tell me what you think.
Anne Bonny vs Mary Read - female pirates
Charlotte Brontė vs Emily Brontė vs Anne Brontė - author sisters
Herman Melville vs Jules Verne - authors who wrote about the sea
Ivan Pavlov vs B. F. Skinner - behavioral scientists
Jesse Owens vs Baron Pierre de Coubertin - Olympic athlete vs founder of modern Olympics. I'm really iffy about this one. I'd like Owens up against an actual athlete. Please suggest a better opponent!
Martin Luther vs John Calvin - theologians, Protestant vs Christian
Frederick the Great vs Catherine the Great - Prussian/Russian leaders ending in "the Great"
PART TWO - Opponents
Below are a list of characters I would be interested in using. Some have possible opponents already, so say if you like any possible opponents already, suggest new ones, or say if you don't think a character should be used at all.
Bodidharma/Damo
Giacomo Casanova
Guglielmo Marconi
Mansa Musa (vs Kublai Khan?)
Isambard Kingdom Brunel
Mother Theresa (vs Emiliano Zapata?)
Frederick Douglass (vs Susan B. Anthony? vs Sojourner Truth? vs Nat Turner?)
Shaka Zulu
Sacagawea
Helen Keller
Eleanor Roosevelt
Vercingetorix
J. Robert Oppenheimer
Booker T. Washington
Aesop
Maya Angelou
Jane Austen
Voltaire
Kurt Vonnegut
Walt Whitman
H.G. Wells
Georgia O'Keefe
PART THREE - Your Own Ideas
Suggest characters and matchups that I haven't yet considered, and perhaps you'll give me some new ideas.
I understand that this is a bit of a big request but I will be very grateful to those of you that choose to offer some assistance.
Thanks!
