How do you look someone in the eyes and ruin their life?
This question is going to be greatly hard for anyone to help with I assume. How do you look someone in the eyes and ruin their life? What I mean by this is, I manage a gas station in Akron Ohio, during the course of my night (I work and run Night Shifts alone) I was watching tape of my nearly 25 cameras when I noticed something odd.
What had happened as it turns out was one of my employees had stolen 380 dollars out of some mans wallet that he had dropped in the store. She claims she didn't do it but the video evidence is damning and the man is pressing charges the police have all the evidence and I assume she will be arrested within the next day or two.
Today I have to fire her. She has three kids, no husband and no reliable income outside this job. I am essentially ruining her life but I have to do it.
So how? (If anyone can actually help) :ashamed:

Then, if you can and want to, offer her help. If she doesn't land in jail, offer her a place to stay or whatnot.

It doesn't sound like you CAN do anything. Her life is going to be ruined anyway, can I suggest not adding to it?
She's down on her luck, and probably feels bad about stealing the money anyway.
Just talk to her, if she needs to leave for a bit to think about things, let her have it. This is likely a one off thing, help her out a bit in regards to emotions, etc.

You didn't ruin her life, she ruined her own. She shouldn't have taken the money. She dug her grave, now she can lie in it. A mother of 3 should know better than to steal from others.

But if you look at it from her perspective, she was probably desperate. She probably wasn't earning enough money to support herself and her kids.
Was it the right thing to do? Hell no. But she needed the money. I DO still believe she should go to jail, though.

Theres an easy solution to this, though it'll probably be controversial:
Don't
She is going to jail anyway, why bother making her feel any worse?
I'm guessing she's a good person who made a very bad mistake, but unofrtunately thoughs things happen, so there isn't really a point in firing her if she has to leave anyway.

Its out of my hands at this point we have a strict policy against stealing, I mean I posted elsewhere that I haven't eaten in several days because I am broke and I have to walk to work today cause I can't pay for gas but I would NEVER steal from one of my customers.
I have to fire her its company policy there is no way for me to avoid it. Wish me luck off to work.

I suspended her pending a full investigation I will be working twice as many hours as normal now and I already work too much its making me ill.
She goes to the detectives on Monday for a lie detector test and interrogation.

In Canada, (Ontario at least) you cannot work more than 60 hours in a week.
How does the US not have something like this? You should, legally, be aquired to be AWAY from work for an 8 hour period.

Because I need to run my company and make my money...I will gladly take the overtime.
My dad at one point in his life was working 100 hours a week. Theres 168 in a week. Yeah...such is life you gotta make due with the hand your dealt.

No just top level manager but I do all the work...the owner gets all the money but its essentially my company. I hire, I fire I do orders I calculate paperwork...ect.

They might be removing my ability to hire the new batch of workers, since I am leaving for the Army in January they are going to want a new manager who can appoint their own team.
Yay training new managers is fun...not.

Thankfully I retain right to fire or I would have quit haha. But yeah these last two months are going to be hell its basically me just biding time with an owner who doesnt want me there and a new manager who wants power...yay. :explode:
