Please STOP with all the signature images!
I've been on the forum for a while, and something that really annoys me is the overuse of SIGNATURE BANNERS AND IMAGES! I don't mind links, or text to a certain degree, but some people take it too far.
Problems:
1) It takes forever to load them all, wasting time, and lots of bandwidth.
2) It makes scrolling an arduous process. I can view only about three comments in every page. Also, browsing the forums becomes inefficient and unenjoyable for readers.
3) It's distracting and annoying. I don't want brightly coloured, sometimes flashing images taking up half my screen! I don't know why people find the need to advertise which group they're in, or what their freaking name is, in such large, obstructive images. The fluorescent greens, purples, and other colours are nothing short of painful to look at.
Solutions:
1) Impose a height limit, in pixels, to each signature box. This would include all text and images, top to bottom. This would solve problem (2) above.
2) Limit the total size, in kilobytes, of the pictures in the box. This solves problem (1) above.
3) Impose a ban on excessively brightly coloured, or large sized images or GIFS. This would be difficult and unspecific to regulate, but I would hope people would be understanding. This would solve problem (3) above.
In Conclusion:
I don't mean to limit people's creativity or enjoyment on the forums. I merely think that it would be a much more professional and comfortable experience browsing the website, if your eyes weren't being assaulted by a barrage of painful imagery. Also, not everyone does this, and thank you to those who don't, but it is a common thing to see.
I'd like to hear your opinions on this.

Re: Please STOP with all the signature images!
Umm... images don't affect the loading of the forum unless:
a) You are using a mobile device.
or
b) It is a .gif image.
Besides, users are allowed to use images in their signature just as much as you are allowed to post. It is a feature in all forum software, so you can't just tell someone "not to put an image in their signature."

How does the computer affect the amount of comments I can view?
What I'm saying, is that at its worst, the comments can take up a third of the screen.

I'm not always using a mobile device, but the images can still take a few seconds to load, especially if there are lots on the page. Sometimes, I'll be reading a comment, and the page will jump up, because an image has loaded up the page.
And I'm not saying ban images, I'm just saying that we should make people aware that signatures don't need to be stuffed full of eyesore.

I mean, I will agree that having more than one image in your signature, or even a youtube video is a bit much. But even if the image is unappealing to the eye, we can't stop them from using it. They have just as much of the privilege as we do.

Re: Please STOP with all the signature images!
Also a lot of us use spoilers to hide the images because Rob asked us to limit how much of our signiture shows regularly. So you don't see the images unless you open the spoiler .....Also what is wrong with having pride of being in a group? I am in love with the fact I have a family in my group....

Yeah, I hadn't thought of that, there are many things that would work well in a spoiler tag.
And I have no problem with having pride in the group, but having the name plastered everywhere is sometimes really distracting, especially if they're a colour like Havok's.
Yours is fine though, quite a nice picture anyway.

Re: Please STOP with all the signature images!
Mine used to be like an entire page long. It's better than before. I would like my Havok thing a little smaller but there's time for that other times. I don't see this as that much of an issue.

I understand that, I don't mind so much if they're unappealing, but just large, moving images are too much.
It's like when people post a wall of emoticons, it's just a different kind of visual spam.

^^' Well Sorry that we have a multitude of people in our group. But I do not wish to put my banner in a spoiler since if you click all my spoilers I actually have a lot in there. ^^; And Well I did not choose the color. I suppose you could maybe just ignore it... I don't see it as exactly fair that a group has to cover up their banners because you dislike the color such as with Dark Rebelz and Havok.

But it will help with the loading issue and Comment issue. Which I believe is the main reason for your complaint correct?

You are all taking what I'm saying far too severely.
I just want people to be aware that just because banners look nice and pretty on their own doesn't mean that they'll look good repeated ten times a page. And I'm not saying that people should have to cover anything up because I personally don't like it, just consider how they can make the banners pleasing to the eye, and unobtrusive. It's a matter of common courtesy.

Java and stored cookies will NOT alter the speed at which images load. Besides, I keep everything up to date. The images only take 5-10 seconds to load, but it's an annoyance nonetheless.

I simply take offence easily. My deepest apologizes hun. But To tell the truth was is your definition of appeasing? Personally I like the bright colors and interesting designs. ^^;

Quit looking at the signatures when your room's light is off?
The only groups that really do the signature thing is Havok and Dark Rebelz.

No offence to WWEfan, but his signature image is very loud and complicated. Kind of hard to look at. I like colours and designs, just not too... noisy?

Java has nothing to do with loading web pages.

Well in moderation it's fine. But not the whole image.

Re: Please STOP with all the signature images!
I agree that once again, signatures have become a little out of hand.
A little while ago, I went through every member and if they had a signature that was over 400px, I edited it and told them to keep it shorter.
I see signatures are becoming larger now again.
With the default forum software, I can't set a limit to signatures really. I can limit each picture, but you can still put multiple pictures. I'll try and find a mod that gives me more abilities to limit signature length.
I agree with KP that it is annoying to scroll through a page and have 80% of it be signatures.

Thank you very much! It's good to know that I'm not the only one who finds this annoying, and it's great to see that you've already taken some steps to help the problem.
