haha okay guys shuddup
The vbulletin software is actually very expensive. It'll solve a lot of 'behind the scenes' issues and bugs that a lot of you might not know about. It'll also solve some of the issues that a lot of you care about; like search never working.
Just like with PhpBB (the software we use now), there are tons of 'add on' modifications that can add additional features to the forum. vbulletin has group features built into it, we will have to discover how things work and what we can do once we get it. Then we can start working on adding new things and filling gaps, so that it doesn't seem like a "downgrade".
A lot of you seem to think that this is a downgrade in a lot of ways, and thats actually not the case. Apart from the behind the scenes things like server resources and bugs, there are a lot of new, built in features.
One big thing is a blog/article management system. A lot of the things that are 'add-ons' for PhpBB are already built into vbulletin. This is a big deal, because the 'add-ons' for PhpBB are made by normal people in their spare time. So as time goes on, they end up being outdated and stop working. Things that are built into vbulletin are kept up-to-date by the company.
Everyone likes different things about the ERB community. Whether its the commendatory of groups, the discussions and debates, or just the ERB leaks, we want everyone to be able to enjoy the site in their own way. So we will be trying to keep as many features as possible. Don't panic if things disappear and aren't back right away, it'll take time to figure out the new software and get things setup. Also, there will be more style options, and they will be a lot easier to make with vB.
