Thanks giving is a story of how some American settlers survived a harsh winter with the help of the native population. Then we were saying 'thank you' to the natives for helping us, now we say thank you to our friends and family. Of course we ended up killing all of the natives and stealing their land, but thats besides the point.

Now Black Friday... thats a holiday with the wtfstory. On Black Friday (the Friday right after thanksgiving) pretty much every American is out shopping; pretty much every year people end up getting trampled in stores, because people are all trying to get expensive things at great deals. The holiday started because the fiscal year is ending, and stores need to make sales to get their accounting ledgers into 'the black' (profits). So every year on the friday after thanks giving, stores have huge sales and pretty much every american is out shopping.
Some stores even have things like 'the first 100 people in the store get 80% off a widescreen tv' or something similar. Thats usually when people get trampled, and thats why people camp outside of the stores to be the first ones in.

And of course, theres now Cyber Monday (the monday right after black friday), where all the leftover black friday sale items are put on the internet at super low discounts.
