Saw the movie twice, finally got my thoughts organized I think.

    Spoiler:
[Finn was really cool. I guess he's a more joke-y protagonist than people are used to for Star Wars but I think it worked really well. I loved that he was a Stormtrooper defect too, and that ended up working really well characterization-wise although I think they maybe could've done a bit more with it. Really hope he doesn't have Force powers though - I think it's best if he stays as a regular person instead of becoming a Jedi or whatever.

Rey was great too. I have to wonder if she's actually Luke's daughter or not - I'm leaning towards no but it could go either way, although I'm kind of hoping she isn't. Definitely can't wait to see her interactions with Luke. Also nice that we finally get an awesome female Jedi. My one problem with her is that I got the impression that she was a little easy to anger from her first few scenes (with BB-8 and Finn) but that didn't really come across for the rest of the movie. Also I can see how people think her learning to use the Force so quickly is a little Mary Sue-ish but only as much as Luke guiding the shot into the Death Star in IV.

Poe was a little more out-of-focus than I expected. Hopefully he'll have a bigger role in the next three because I really like how he was handled. Also I think Finn/Poe has a lot more potential than Finn/Rey as a relationship. I think Oscar Isaac has said he deliberately played Poe like he was romantically interested in Finn (although I'm not positive, I'm getting this from second-hand sources). Given this movie is already really diverse I actually kind of hope Pinn or whatever we're calling it becomes a thing. I mean, if we're gonna have a pointless romance anyway...

BB-8 was cool I guess. I liked the design anyway.

Han Solo was great. I really think having him be the connecting link between the new and old protagonists was the best route they could've taken. Not as sure on how to feel about his death, although it does convey a "Ben is dead, meet Kylo Ren" feeling I suppose. He was probably my favorite part of the movie, which I guess might also be why I'm a little torn about his death.

Kylo himself, I really liked. A lot of people have complained that his real face is really dorky, but I think that's the point. It shows he's not really a "real" Dark Side user yet - he's like a rebellious teenager living out a power fantasy. I also like that they didn't really try too hard to hide him being Han and Leia's kid - I mean, yeah, they didn't spoil that pre-release, but they also revealed it halfway through the movie instead of saving it for the climax like I thought they would do. I really like his gimmick of immobilization - I really get the feeling that he's more powerful in the Force than a lot of older Force users, especially at the beginning where he just stops the blaster shot with seemingly no effort. I think he should've put the mask back on for the final fight though - he looks weird without it and it'd help drive home the "Ben is dead" thing. Also I loved how he seems to see the Dark Side as the pure and righteous path, and the Light Side as a temptation - I hope they elaborate on that in future movies.

This may sound weird but I hope Snoke is an incarnation of Darth Plagueis. I think it's definitely a possible route they could take - especially since Kylo was already a loose adaptation of Jacen, showing they are willing to revisit old concepts - and the character really interests me. Plus, although I'm not a fan of "oh they weren't really dead" retcons in general, I think it makes sense for a character whose whole thing is mastering the power of life. Also would be okay if it were Palpatine, or really just an original character who happens to be tapped into the Dark Side. I just think it makes more sense if he's a former Sith.

I have to wonder if Luke is an incarnation of the grey Jedi or not. I think that would be interesting if he were a somewhat morally ambiguous character motivated by the loss of his students. Regardless of which route they take I think Luke will definitely be a big character.

So for the plot of the next movie, I'm thinking: Rey trains with Luke while Kylo trains with Snoke. Some big tragedy that requires a Jedi's assistance happens, and Finn and Poe set out to find Rey somehow. Hopefully more elaboration on Kylo's character, and definitely more scenes with Phasma (who I felt was a wasted character in this movie). I'm fine with really any plot, although I hope at least Boba and Darth Maul stay dead because I find them overused.

Oops I wrote too much. Overall loved the plot. Yeah it's similar to the original movies and yeah there are some things that bothered me (like how they built Starkiller Base so quickly) but overall I loved the movie. 5/5

also quick question: who was that voice that said "She has taken her first steps" at the end of Rey's weird dream sequence in the cantina? My uncle says it was supposed to be Obi-Wan but I'm not sure...]

I don't remember those exact words, but Ewan McGregor and Frank Oz voiced Obi-Wan and Yoda respectively for that scene.

I absolutely agree with you 100%. I thought the movie was fantastic[, but I think Rey IS gonna be Luke's daughter. I mean, her family left her on Jakku and never returned, maybe it was Luke leaving her there before he exiled himself.]

[I thought about this a bit after watching the movie and I kinda think she's Obi-Wan's granddaughter, because of that accent. It'd make sense since the actor for Finn hid his accent but the actress for Rey didn't.]

[Honestly, the whole "Rey is a Kenobi" is a lot more appealing than the obvious "Rey is Luke's daughter" that they're making painfully obvious.

    10/10, 100/100, fucking fantastic movie.

Finally saw the movie...here are my thoughts on it:

    Spoiler:
    [Characters:
Finn: Probably my favorite character, adding a good bit of humor, surprising realism, and just awesomeness the movie, though I didn't feel they needed for him to lie to Rey. I'm really hoping that it turns out he's a clone of Lando. Considering the similarities of both characters, I could see it being plausible.

Poe: Probably my least favorite of the new heroes, although that's mainly due to his lack of screen time in the movie compared to Finn and Rey. I wish he was in the movie more, because he seemed like a good foil to Han

Rey: ...I'm honestly unsure how I feel about Rey. She was a good character, but felt dragged into the movie to have a female hero. However, I have thought of a good idea of who she's related to. I do think she's a Skywalker, but is not from Luke. I think Leia and Han had a second child, and, not wanting her to turn to the Dark Side, sent her to Jakuu to keep her safe.

BB-8: While he was a great successor for R2D2, he was too similar, but was adorable compared to R2D2

Han: ;_; Why'd he have to die?

Kylo Ren: ...I found him to be the blandest character in the movie, considering all he did was act like an angsty child, and the one seemingly good moment he had turned him into a monster.

The other returning characters: Mostly felt shoved in, except for Leia, who I honestly though was going to die.

In conclusion, while being extremely similar to A New Hope, it did have a lot of good qualities, and felt like a good continuation to the story. The biggest disappointments for me were Kylo Ren, and the lack of Luke Skywalker being able to speak, though I do fear Luke may be dead by the end of the trilogy.

Nah man, Phasma was the biggest disappointment, not Kylo.
