Two weeks came and went after the attack on the Western Base of the Maxims. The Shadow Gods lowered their forces, a smart choice. Tensions between the UMHs and the Pure-Hearts had grown to an all time high, and they were waiting for an excuse to battle. And on that day, they did...
---
"Alright everyone!" Cryonic announced, "Tomorrow is the famed Festival of the Passed ceremony. Bring any possessions or offerings to our dead comrades."
The Pure-Hearts refused to be upset at the death of any of their own, so every year they went to the Veteran's Memorial Graveyard and set up tents to celebrate for five days. They told stories of the deceased and made their favorite foods and sang songs and did everything to keep the memory. On the day they left back to their base, they put flowers and belongings on the tombs and left.
---
"So it's settled," Adonis finished, "we go to the graveyard to mourn the loss of Spartica on Wednesday."
"It works," Lohuy was glum. There was a dark mood over the UMH's base after the fateful day that so much happened.
On the subject of fate, it was the puppet master that day. It pulled the strings and made the bitter rivals camp out at the same place on the same day. What they didn't know is that some of them would make it closer to their dead allies than they would've expected.
The UMH's rolled out on the second day of the festival. They arrived while the Pure-Hearts were singing and dancing.
"Really?" Mancha was in shock, "You're singing and dancing over killing our leader? That's disgusting."
"No. It's not like that!" Cryonic was confused.
"Stick a sock in it." Ranger growled.
"Every year we have a festival to cel-" Cryonic was violently interrupted. Ranger kicked into his stomach. While that wouldn't normally be bad, his weapon of choice was a hard steel pole attached to his leg. It slide down to his ankle and jammed its way through Cryonic's stomach.
"I could always stick a pole in it instead." Ranger was static in emotion.
"Y-you stabbed... me." Cryonic shakily looked down at his piercing and coughed out a large puddle of blood, "You can fix me guys... You c-c-can fix me up, right? I'll get all better and we can do the... the thing with the flowers and food right and we can..."
His eyes faded with him into the afterlife and he passed on. Ranger let the corpse slide off of his pole, sliding it back up to normal height. Like a ton of bricks, Cryonic's lifeless body hit the ground. The Pure-Hearts were awestruck at the collapse of their leader. Their eyes shifted from the body to the repeat misunderstanders in front of them.
"And now," Sane half-spoke with tears fresh in his eyes, "I realize something about life itself. Our leader is gone. The ranks are out of order. I'm saying all of this to give you guys some knowledge about our culture. But... I guess there's plenty of learning time... WHEN WE KILL YOU MOTHERFUCKERS!"
With that burst of revenge, the Pure-Hearts charged forwards, weapons outstretched. The UMHs didn't know how to respond.
"Permission to fight back?" Adonis balled his heavy iron fists.
"FUCKIN' A!" Lohuy erupted, expanding dual hammer ends from his palms. The UMHs rushed to meet the bloodlust of the Pure-Hearts, their unique weapons resistant and powerful. Dr. Horseleech had his entire chest shattered by Lohuy's hammer hands.
"God dammit," He wheezed to speak. In a heated battle, no one noticed or came to his aid and he died in the eye of a storm comprised of violent war.
--
Kubby laughed like a madman, slashing away at Adonis. Adonis tried to evade, but a deep cut gashed him down the cheek. Some of the blood seeped into his mouth. He spit it onto his opponent and continued attacking. Kubby's spearheads perfectly absorbed the shock of Adonis' punches, with the second one available for same time offense.
"You think you have a chance?" Kubby asked.
"Not much." Adonis was crying at the horrific event, heaving his chest deeply, swinging his fist wildly.
"Haha. You have the strength but the lack the passion." Kubby critiqued Adonis, "A fighter with no drive has no potential to win even the simplest of matches. Don't lose your flame."
"Why?" Adonis was out of breath, only flopping his arms at a heavily fatigued pace, "Why are you giving me tips on how to fight... While I'm trying to kill you?"
"Because," Kubby got serious, still not dropping any focus on his spears, "who do you think your real foes are?"
Before Adonis could answer, Kubby shoved him to the ground with the head of his spear. Adonis could do nothing but wait to meet his cruel end. Kubby put both spears in his left hand.
"Do it, god damn you." Adonis was in drenched in fear and sweat, "End my life and move on."
Kubby didn't say a word, keeping horrifying eye contact with Adonis. He hunched over slightly and outstretched his right hand.
"What? What are you doing?" Adonis didn't understand. Kubby still said nothing, and waited. He reached his goal and Adonis grabbed his hand. Kubby hoisted him up and patted him on the back.
"What the hell?" Adonis didn't understand any of this, "Why didn't you defeat me?"
"I did." Kubby answered in honesty, "Now. Do you want to finish this bloodbath?"
"Yes." Adonis' eyes drifted down. He was ashamed. Even a few casualties in a battle can destroy the bravest of men. Kubby winked at lightning speed, and constricted Adonis' waist with his left arm. Adonis sputtered for breath. With his right hand, he prodded one spear into the bottom of Adonis' chin.
"Everyone!" Kubby's voice was like a pause button that domino'd into everyone in battle. They turned to face him, and saw him with his hostage, "Stop this fighting and leave! I have this Military Hero hostage and have nothing in brain stopping me from turning his head into a lollipop for worms. United Military Heroes! Leave our festival, and I send your man back after I know you've stopped plotting. If you try anything other than my demand, this one, along with all of you, will be dead before you even have a chance to blink."
Reluctantly, all of the UMHs glanced at each other. All eyes ended up on Lohuy. He was frozen, holding Klonoa in the air by his shirt. He lowered the Pure-Heart. Slowly, to show he had no bad intentions.
"We except your conditions," Lohuy boomed back, "but if 48 hours pass without Adonis contacting us on his way back, we will come back with even worse weapons and shatter proof armor. I promise you here that if you kill him, no do as much as pinch him, we will kill you all where you stand. We're out."
Lohuy nodded, and his team set off into the dark evening sky.
---
The festival continued. Few words were spoken, and the focus shifted majorly to Cryonic and Dr. Horseleech. They eventually found Horseleech after the conflict. Turtle discovered the body. The night was now cast over the gravesite, and a bonfire was the only illumination in the twilight. They ate roasted chicken, a guilty pleasure food of Cryonic. They fed Adonis the same they did with themselves.
"This really was a festival to honor our passed comrades. Thanks to you boneheads, my best friend and powerful general have joined the day. It's usually a happy time. But look at our faces. Do you think we're happy? Do you think we wanted this to happen?" Gunnut was spaced out. He didn't have to address Adonis or even look at him, everyone knew., "It was our festival to be happy."
"I know," Adonis whispered, a lump in his throat turning into a stream of tears, "Mancha reacted out of misunderstanding and Ranger did what he thought was right. We really are assholes. I-I'm sorry."
There was no forgiveness. No sympathy. They knew Adonis was genuine, but it was too little too late. The rest of the night was spent in silence. Eating and crying. Gunnut told Adonis he was free to go around midnight. Most were asleep, and Gunnut was headed there too.
"Alright," Adonis kept his voice low, "I have to do something personal first. Please head off to sleep."
Gunnut didn't want to, but he eventually turned around and headed to his tent. Once in bed, Adonis pulled something long and thin from his satchel. A rose. He squatted down and rested it on top of Cryonic's newly dug grave. He whispered something inaudible and set out back home. Kubby watched with his eyes slightly open, and smiled.
-End Act 3-

Addendum:
Adonis was walking through brutal heat towards the direction of his base. He would safely make it long before the 48 hour cap, but didn't let that slow him down. He checked for his cold water bottle in his satchel, but instead found a piece of paper.
You have the power to change it.
You may not know it yet, but you will fix the war.
Today you showed me that you're different from the others.
You're perceptive and you care for all, not just your own wellbeing.
Keep up that behavior, and just maybe the good guys can win this war.
~You Know Who
He grinned, and started picking up the pace.
No more petty arguments.
The Pure-Hearts and the UMHs will take this victory in the war!
