    Event Zero (A superhero RPG)

    Farmingdale, New York.
    3 hours before Event Zero:
    Second round of a golf championship was about to begin. Zack Astner had to do better this time, if he planned to win, that is. He did finish under par, but, it was not good enough. It seemed however, the luck was on his side. The wind started to pick up slightly. He liked wind. He dealt well with it. Or at least, he dealt with it better than most other contestants in the championship.

    1 hour before Event Zero:

    Shit, the wind is calming. It could've been worse. It could've calmed before his rivals took their shots. So, hey, at least he's got that going for him, hmm? Well, it was his time to come onto the field and take a shot at the first hole.

    10 minutes before Event Zero:

    Could've been worse. After a few holes, Zack concluded he was catching up to his opponents, and if he kept up the form, he could potentially outscore the others by the end of the final round. It was time to tackle another hole. Longer than average, but not the longest in this course (That would be hole 13).

    1 minute before Event Zero:
    Zack made his way to the teeing box, and placed the ball. The wind was unexistent by that point.

    15 seconds before Event Zero:

    Zack chose his club, and approached the ball.

    0.9 seconds before Event Zero:
    Zack started his backswing.

    0.1 seconds before Event Zero:

    Zack started his downswing.

    Event Zero:

    Frame-by-frame analysis of the game footage indicates Zack Astner's club started glowing orange at this point.

    0.13 seconds after Event Zero:
    The glowing club struck the ball. A small explosion left a small crater in the teeing box and blew Zack back, who was surprisingly unharmed by the whole ordeal. The game footage shows the ball getting shattered into unrecognisable debris by the explosion. A careful analysis of the rules of golf shows that since the ball was destroyed as the result of a stroke, that stroke is cancelled without penalty.




    Mr Astner is one of people who suddenly gained some sort of a superpower at a point in time that later became known as the Event Zero. It affected about 1 in 13 thousand people, mostly uniformly around the world. (there is some variance, but the fraction of powered people is roughly within the same order of magnitude, no matter the geographic location.)

    This RPG will take place about a month after Event Zero, in Chicago. You guys are gonna role-play as a bunch of superpowered people, who kinda saw each other do the super stuff, and decided to stick together and form some kind of team.

    Appearance: A rather average-height, slim man, with a black sleeveless jacket. The sleeveless jacket reveals a ton of Sumerian hieroglyphs and other symbols on his arms and body. He wears a pair of cargo shorts and black boots. His shaved head and face is very non-descript, however his yellow eyes are very noticeable. He has a dark skin tone, probably from his Egyptian roots.

    Personality: Very intelligent, very enigmatic man. Is very reticent about what information to reveal to everyone. Is very very knowledgeable, but his social skills could use some work. Spent his entire life studying and it shows. Never says anything directly, is very enigmatic in his discourse. Is only interested in myths, mythology and history. Nothing else is interesting for him.

    Backstory: At 18 years old, Seth went to the pyramids. 32 years later, he emerged out of Egypt with superpowers. During those 32 years, Seth lived among hieroglyphs studying everything the Egyptians knew, and more. He found an ancient library in the Temple of Ra that contained all the knowledge the Egyptians hid away. The history of the world, the history of magic, and the history of all the gods. Not only Egyptian, but Norse Gods, Greek and Roman Gods, and even Japanese Gods. He studied all the pantheons and all the Egyptian writings. Seth became a living library of anything mystical and mythological. During Event Zero, Seth saw all the hieroglyphs coming to life, and he saw them going inside his mind. The symbols stuck to his skin, and to his mind. And he gained the power of the gods, and most importantly, the power over all knowledge.

    Non-super skillset: Fluent in 15 languages, almost super-human intelligence, perfect memory.

    Element: Ancient Hieroglyphs.

    Backstory: Grew up in the former Soviet Union, moving to the United States when his ex-KGB father defected to the DIA. Joined the military and eventually was put through SEAL School. Lived a fairly simple life after retirement with his live in girlfriend until a petty criminal killed her, and nearly did the same thing to him. Recovered from the attack, his psyche crumbling under the weight of the tragedy, he hunted and killed this criminal, and now does the same to all violent criminal elements.

    Non-super skillset: Marksman, expert in Russian SAMBO and Krav Maga. Capable of stealthy movement on land and undersea.

    OK, I think we can stop at six.

    YN, here's the powers you can choose for your character. (TS, Gunnut, the choice of powersets for you will come soonish)

    Primary power: (choose one)

    Caramel Trap: A puddle of caramel appears below your target and engulfs their legs, making it impossible for them to move from that spot. The caramel has the strength of exceptionally (but not supernaturally) strong man, and has to be breaken out of with pure strength (or with detachable legs, I guess) - no escape artist tricks will help with that one. It can be used repeatedly, but the increase in strength is rather mild.

    Candy Armor: With some energy cost, a hard candy shell wraps around your body and protects you from hits for about two hours. It can tank anything up to pistol fire effortlessly. Above that, it can potentially prevent you from taking any damage, but the moment some damage gets through, the armor shatters to pieces and ceases protecting you after that hit, forcing you to pay the energy cost again (if you want to still be protected that is).

    Candy Absorbtion: You can heal HP at an amazing rate of 10 per minute (out of maximum 100), if you eat enough candy. It's not enough to matter that much in combat, obviously, but it can make a difference, and will make post-combat recovery a breeze. It cannot regrow lost body parts, however.

    Candy Companion: You can summon this candy golem to fight on your side. It is dumb as bricks, not that skilled in combat, and water dissolves him. However, he's stronger than an average human, and since he's entirely made of candy (with no vital organs and no bones that can break, and no blood vessels to rupture), he's much harder to take down and it's immune to many things humans aren't immune to (such as poison or lack of oxygen)

    Candy Rain: Pounds an area with a diameter of 4 meters with hard candy. The candy hits with force roughly equivalent to that of a beefier handgun, but it's blunt damage instead of piercing damage. Note that the candy strikes randomly within the area and is therefore not guaranteed to hit everything in there (has roughly 50% chance of striking a human size target)

    Secondary powers: (Choose three. Alternatively, forfeit any secondary powers, and instead choose one more primary power)

    Weaker Caramel Trap: Same as Caramel Trap (and mutually exclusive with it), but weaker - it only has a strength of a 5 year old. You can still stack it, however.

    Weaker Candy Armor: Same as Candy Armor (and mutually exclusive with it), but weaker - it requires more energy to activate, and has a chance of failing from handgun damage.

    Weaker Candy Absorbtion: Same as Candy Absorbtion (and mutually exclusive with it), but weaker - it only heals 10 HP per hour.

    Weaker Candy Rain: Same as Candy Rain (and mutually exclusive with it), but weaker - its attacks roughly have the force of an ordinary punch now.

    Candy Detection: If you concentrate, you can try to detect where and how far nearest candy is, and how much of it. (Chance of success depends on how far the candy actually is.) There is also a chance you can determine its type.
