Agreed, No one knew elsa was until she sang that ungodly song
Spoiler:
Peter said he didn't know anything about Frozen other than hearing the song Let It Go. I think that's a pretty common position to be i when you are an unwed, childless, 40 yo man.
But I think even more people will have heard of, yet not know anything about Game of Thrones. Peter seems to be really interested in using a Game of Throne character (ew). If any GoT character were to be used, it should be Daenerys, but it would be better if it was nobody. George R.R. Martin is more material than any of his characters, but even he isn't that worthy when compared to other authors.
Honestly, I feel like George R.R. Martin's done plenty to be worthy of an ERB. Although borderline cliche, I think JRRT vs GRRM would be a perfect battle. Everything from writing styles to overall popularity, even down to name similarities could be great material for something like this.
And if you wanted personal jokes on Martin, there's always
-how long he takes to write
-a "copycat" Tolkien
-the hat.
Plenty of material, plenty of potential.
I think it would work.
Here's to hoping for JRRT VS GRRM.
I don't watch GoT, but that show has undeniable popularity, certainly on par with some of the other shows they've represented in ERB. Tyrion, Joffrey and Daenerys are names I know well despite never seeing the show, and there are probably more that could be used just fine in ERB.
The other authors we've seen in ERB have been known for their highly prolific careers. Shakespeare and Poe are still known a hundred years after their deaths. Seuss and King are known for countless highly iconic works of literature. George R.R. Martin has written things other than The Song of Ice and Fire, but he is known by the public almost entirely for that one series. The series itself has existed since 1996 but never gained any notoriety until it was made into a TV show.
I've seen every episode of Game of Thrones, and I have absolutely no idea why King Joffery is suggested so often in an ERB. He's by no stretch of the imagination a main character and would probably be the most obscure character ERB has ever used as a title character. I'm also very much against using TV Drama characters to begin with. Not only are they relatively obscure at the peak of their fame, but they are almost guaranteed to be forgotten based on the nature of the medium they come from.
Networks aren't going to re-air episodes of Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, or Game of Thrones after their series are over just like they don't re-air episodes of the far far more popular shows that have been done for a long time like Lost, Heroes, or Prison Break. The reason being that people aren't going to want to watch an episode in the middle of the story because they won't know what's going on. And because the TV Drama series typically have a full series run time over 24 hours, people aren't going to sit down and re-watch them. In other words, characters like Rick Grimes and Walter White are doomed to an even deeper obscurity than they already had when they were featured in ERB.
Ayn Rand vs. Maya Angelou?
