Beat:
Relevance-Definitely no quipes here. Most of it sounds very robotic and futuristic, which obviously is good here, and the siren-y parts help it even more. 2.5/2.5
Catchiness-I haven't been humming this or anything, but it's got a pretty memorable tune for most parts. 2/2.5
Intensity-yeaaaaaaaaaah 2.5/2.5
Variety-Nothing really changes after the first verse. I guess that's fine, since the first verse has a fair amount of variety, so the beat never reaches a point of feeling like “alright we get it”. 2/2.5
Overall: Beats this half-season haven't been quite as good as the first half season in general, but this is probably the best one yet, just because it doesn't really have anything extremely wrong with it. 9/10
Costumes:
Robocop-The only real way they could've gotten this wrong would be if Peter's chin didn't look like Robocop, and fortunately it does. 2.5/2.5
The Terminator-I was really pleasantly surprised with how much Lloyd looks like the Terminator. I was expecting it to look like Lloyd wearing Terminator's clothes, but this is actually one of the best costumes they've ever done. 2.5/2.5
Voices:
Robocop-I really like the effect they used for this voice. Makes any large distinctions between Peter's voice and Weller's original voice pretty unnoticeable. 2.5/2.5
The Terminator-I liked this voice OK at first, but my opinion of it has fallen over time. The accent is fine, the main problem is that it's too high-pitched. I've seen people compare it to Lloyd's Hannibal, but I thought his voice for that was great (just the yelly delivery was out-of-character) since Hopkins did have a high pitch. Schwarzenegger has a deep voice, so just having the accent isn't enough. You can tell it's Schwarzenegger, but it didn't impress me. 1/2.5
Robocop-Round 1:
Freeze! I suggest you use your right to remain silent
Death Battle did it first, but I'm guessing ERB didn't see it. So I like this line, it just didn't have the impact it would have without the death battle.
Before I show your Gobot ass some Detroit violence!
The Gobot reference is funny, and it pairs up well with the Detroit violence thing.
I'm like an X-Wing commander cause I stay on target.
Meh, kind of a random reference.
I take over these streets like I'm a farmer's market!
Pretty funny, now that I think about it.
I wonder where the Cyberdyne research went
That they couldn't fix your funky Hans and Franz accent!
Not the BEST accent joke you could make, though still pretty great.
They sent you back to kill a child, but he's defeating you still.
They should have made a time travelling morning after pill!
Funny, insulting, clever.
And I didn't think I had any feelings left inside me
But my heart was surely broken after Terminator 3!
As far as Terminator 3 jokes go, this is pretty nice.
I'm RoboCop, and I got the flow to beat roided-out C-3PO!
I don't really see the resemblance between the model and C-3PO. I mean, it's kind of similar, but not enough to get a laugh.
I got the mic control like alt delete. Your move, creep!
Definitely could've made better use of “your move creep”, but I really like the control alt delete reference. I guess it depends on how you want to divide the lines up here.
Overall: Pretty much every other line in this verse is good. Lots of good references and a few good laughs.9/10
The Terminator-Round 1:
Wrong. I have detailed files on the conclusion of your trilogy.
Definitely well above average for a set up line.
That movie failed Detroit worse than the automotive industry!
Kind of an obvious joke but it's funny.
I am T-800 Cyberdyne Systems Model 101
Fact statey and pretty fillery.
And I'll be sweeping up your robo-bits like paperclips when I'm done!
Not much of a references, just an OK threat.
My rapping attack is a massive dispatch of bazookas and gats and grenades
That rapidly bashes your brains and dismantles that puny peashooter that fits in your leg!
There aren't any jokes here. I'll give it props for a well constructed flow though.
We're not the same! You peel away my perfect skin you find super computers!
Not a super clever comparison.
You look like Krang wearing a cold-pressed juicer!
He really doesn't. I do like this whole 80s thing they have going on, but some of the 80s references aren't that clever.
They left off your balls when your suit was created!
(I still love you, Alex.) Bullshit! Your sex life is terminated!
This might be my favorite line of the whole season. It's up there with “swallow my babies” and the cereal killer line. This is just a perfect use of the voice replicator.
Based on my detailed analysis of the lyrical structure of battle raps
It's time for your next shit verse, and then I'll be back!
It's not super dissy or boasty or threatening, but it's a very clever use of the OBVIOUS “I'll be back” joke they had to make.
Overall: It's got its moments for sure, just not quite as many moments as Robocop's first verse. 8/10
Robocop-Round 2 and 3:
You don't know love, you don't know honor
You only know a programmed robot boner for John Connor
Pretty funny, and actually very true the more you think about it.
OCP gave me the skills to wreck this
I can't help it if I'm fresh, it's my prime directive!
It's amusing on its own, but the visual thing with the 4th Prime Directive makes it much better.
Nice try, but I'm too quick on the draw
I'm glad they did this cool action sequence. I just wish they had cool lines that fit the situation well instead of just storytelling lines.
What can go wrong for you will, creep: Murphy's law
Definitely clever, although probably the most simple Murphy's law joke you could make.
Overall: Set-up, good line, set-up, good line, filler, good line. Half of the verse is great. 9/10
The Terminator-Round 2 and 3:
I'll punch through your face hole and rip out your vocal chords
Pretty basic threat. I guess there is a reference to Robocop's “face hole”, it's just not a very good reference.
And then mail your space helmet back to Geordi La Forge!
This is probably the funniest 80s pop culture reference in the battle, since Robocop's helmet actually does look like that (whereas Terminator doesn't look like C3PO and Robocop doesn't look like Krang). Still not brilliant, just funny.
Chill out, dickwad! Your emotions are wrecking your flow!
Clever way to work in the “chill out dickwad” quote with a reference to the whole emotion thing Robocop has going on.
I couldn't find a decent rhyme in your line, if I was in search mode!
Pretty great.
You're too slow! I blow more steam through machines than a barista!
There could've been a funny barista reference here, but I don't really see why blowing a lot of steam is boast-worthy.
It's Judgment Day, baby. Hasta la vista!
Two really obvious references that aren't really linked together in any clever way.
Overall: I really like the first two lines in the last verse, and the Geordi La Forge reference is funny, but it's not enough to keep up with Robocop. 8.5/10
Ungraded Stuff:
Idea-It kind of had to be done and I'm glad it was. It's an obvious match-up, but I'd say it's a good kind of obvious, not a Spongebob vs. Patrick type of obvious.
Presentation-This season has absolutely excelled in this regard. Lots of small little touches that really make the battle more enjoyable. Some of the stop motion effects are kind of fake-looking but still cool. By the way, Robocop's dancing is awesome. He wins in mannerisms.
Overall Battle: I find the 3 battles this half-season extraordinarily on par with each other, with none of them being significantly better or worse than the others. This battle is just good in virtually all regards aside from Terminator's voice. Lots of good laughs, excellent costumes, pretty nice beat. 9/10
Robocop's Best Line: (They sent you back to kill a child, but he's defeating you still.) They should have made a time travelling morning after pill!
Robocop's Worst Line: Nice try, but I'm too quick on the draw
The Terminator's Best Line: “I still love you, Alex” Bullshit! Your sex life is terminated!
The Terminator's Worst Line: I am T-800 Cyberdyne Systems Model 101
Final Results:
Robocop: 18/20
The Terminator: 16.5/20
Total Score: 61/70
